Everything You Need To Know About The Universal Studios Japan Express Pass
14 Mar 2019
Tired of waiting for hours on end, just for five minutes of fun? Universal Studios Japan (USJ) Express Passes are essential if you want to save time and pack the most fun into your day at USJ.
With a variety of passes available, figuring out which USJ Express Pass is best for you can be confusing.
Here’s a handy guide on all the things you need to know about the USJ Express Pass - from the different types of passes available, to which ones you should buy.
The Universal Studios Express Pass is a separate ticket that allows you to gain fast-track entry to pre-selected attractions and rides in USJ.
This means that your wait times in the queues will be greatly reduced compared to the regular queues. Peak waiting times for popular attractions go well beyond three hours during peak seasons - even with some maxing out the 300 min wait time cap for the regular queue - so getting an Express Pass is a great way for making the most out of your holiday.
USJ Express Passes available for each day are limited, so make sure you book them early! Their prices vary from day to day as well - check the Klook USJ Express Pass booking calendar for exact prices. Do take note that certain attractions have designated time slots that are auto-generated.
NOTE: The USJ Express Pass is an add-on item to your regular admissions ticket. You need to purchase both the Universal Studios Japan Ticket and the USJ Express Pass. Don’t forget to order your USJ admission ticket in advance!
Here’s an example of what your USJ Express Pass will look like when it’s emailed to you.
Scan the QR code on either your printed pass or the mobile pass at the attraction entrance to gain your Express entry.
Book your Express Pass in advance through Klook. On busy days, the USJ Express passes often sell out before the park even opens. By booking through Klook, you’ll bypass this risk, and also save some money with Klook’s reduced prices.
We recommend booking your USJ Express Pass at least two weeks before you visit, and even earlier if you’re visiting during peak season to guarantee that you’ll be able to get enough passes - especially for larger groups and families.
If you are travelling together in a group, be sure to make your Express Pass bookings in one transaction to avoid receiving different time slots for each attraction.
There are several different versions of Express Pass available, each with different attractions offered on them: USJ Express Pass 3, 4 and 7. The passes are differentiated by number of attractions that the pass is valid for.

USJ can be easily accessed by several modes of transport. Here are some of the best ways to get to USJ.
From hotel: Check with your hotel to see if they provide shuttle services to USJ By bus: 35-75 minutes from Kansai Airport and 45 minutes from Itami Airport By train: From Namba, take Hanshin Namba Line to Nishikujo (4th stop) then transfer to JR Yumesaki Line and get off at Universal City Station By ferry: Captain Line transfers people to and from Universal Studios Japan and Osaka Aquarium
The Osaka Amazing Pass includes unlimited rides on subway, tramway, and bus systems within Osaka, alongside entry to 30 attractions!
Start early at USJ and get the major attractions out of the way first - to keep your express line waiting times as short as possible.
Hit the seasonal attractions first, followed by the popular Express Pass attractions (Minion Mayhem, Flying Dinosaur, Hollywood Dream etc.). After you’ve gone on all your Express Pass rides, take your time to explore the park and queue for the non-Express pass attractions - the queues for most of these shouldn’t be too long.
Remember to check the temporary closure dates for the attractions you plan to buy the Express Pass for, to avoid disappointment. Alternative attractions will be offered if the attraction you wish to see is closed, except for Harry Potter and the Forbidden Journey? and Flight of the Hippogriff?
